The wife struggled to take selfies of us our last vacation, well not anymore. This makes it so easy, even she has no problems now. She does only use the basics, as this has so many cool features and options that are way more than she needs, but nice to have if or when you need them.
Yes, you do have to sign up in the app (give it your email) and yes, you do have to give it permissions on your phone it may not need (location), but this gimbal works well for a 2 axis smartphone gimbal stabilizer.
The overall weight of this is nothing (.5 lbs) and will really depend on your phone on how much it weighs. The steel rod on this will extend to just over 10 inches, so plenty far enough to get a great photo or video. The phone will rotate 360 degrees and go in about any angle, so you can get about any shot you want. You do have to tilt the phone manually if you need that way to take a selfie or film yourself as you are doing something.
There is a slight learning curve on this but after playing with it for 5 minutes, you will get it and be able to use everything on it. The app has more and will take more time to learn, but you will not have an issue using this and getting great videos and photos in no time at all. I found it hard to believe how well this works as I am slinging the camera around and it just keeps up and works and keeps it straight with no jello or wobble in the video like you do when you are holding your smartphone in your hand.
If you want, you only need the app to register and get your stabilizer working and connected when you use it, but you don’t need to use it or open it after that unless you want or need to use the other option in the app.
As a side note, just be careful when opening and closing the arm, as you could break something if you pull on it, pull it out too far or twist it the wrong way. It is well built and shouldn’t break, just don’t overdo it when moving it and don’t move it further than you have to.
Overall, I am very impressed with this and how great the videos are.
